Striving to Perfect the Yakiniku Way

Sumibiyaki Yuji is located in a narrow alleyway near Tokyu Hands in Shibuya.

The restaurant which specializes in horumon (offal) yakiniku, attracts a flock of serious fans. Even before the restaurant opens, customers with reservations are already waiting in line outside the restaurant. This famous restaurant has been featured in popular television shows and magazines. It is a two-story building with a total of 40 seats; the counter on the first-floor seats up to eight people while table seating is available to the rest.  When you take your seat, you will be provided a plastic bag to protect your luggage and jackets from absorbing various odors.

Yuji Higuchi, the owner of the restaurant, believes his job is more than simply procuring the best quality meat and presenting it to the customer; his personal mission is to continuously impress even the most discerning palate. Higuchi pursues perfection for each cut of meat; he accentuates, for example, the visual appeal by careful attention to the size and thickness of each cut.

You will see a wooden rack listing the horumon menus on the walls. The fresh assortment of horumons is, in itself, a true masterwork that can be appreciated by even those who are not afficionados of the dishes. The horumons are carefully pre-treated, and, when grilled, are tender, juicy, and plump. The restaurant also offers a regular line up of dishes commonly served in more typical yakiniku restaurants. If you are wondering what to order, try the omakase course. It features assorted meats and horumons, along with salad, rice, soup, and dessert.

If there is a selection you really want to eat that is not listed on the menu, please ask an employee about availability. It is a good idea to go with a Japanese acquaintance to avoid difficulties placing your order.

Reservation is recommended!
