Taste of Kagawa Prefecture

Maruka is in the backstreets of Jimbocho district, located in the outer moat of the Imperial Palace.

There is no chance you will miss Maruka: a long line leads up to a white noren (curtain) spelling out udon across the entrance. Udon lovers in Tokyo are well acquainted with this address.

Maruka is run by a chef from Kagawa Prefecture, the undisputed capital of udon in Japan.

You will be handed a simple menu packed with orthodox udon options. An employee will ask for your order before you even get through the door. You can have it cold or hot, with soup or without. Add toppings or side dishes of your choice.

The noodles, made fresh in-house, are thick, square-cut udon complimented by a light, gentle broth. Classic udon are kake udon (noodles in a clear dashi broth with grated ginger chopped scallions on the side) and kamatama udon (noodles made with raw egg and dashi soy sauce).

Be aware that the restaurant might close operation once the daily noodle supply runs out.

東京でも本場の讃岐うどんが食べれます。コシがあり、出汁も関西風で、揚げたての竹輪天、海老天、野菜天どれもこれもボリュームがあって、大満足。いろんな店が出店してますが、東京一でしょう。 Quote from Google Map Review
