Pinnacle of Kaiseki Cuisine Prepared with Impeccable Technique

Matsukawa is in the back streets of the Roppongi 1-Chome area near the U.S. Embassy. The closest stations are Tokyo Metro Tameike-sanno or Roppongi 1-Chome.

Matsukawa is a hideaway-style Japanese restaurant that is not covered in any media, including the Michelin Guide. It is an introduction-only restaurant. Tadayoshi Matsukawa, the owner chef, displays his outstanding skills behind the seating counter. Chef Matsukawa received his training at the prestigious "Shofukuro" where he became the youngest head chef at the tender age of 28. The delicate and elegant flavors of his dishes are highly praised by gourmets and chefs alike.

Matsukawa only serves an omakase course (chef’s choice). All the dishes are made by preparing the finest ingredients with precision. It is worth mentioning that Matsukawa uses the best deep and rich dashi (soup stock). The ingredients are simple; but, in combination, are very flavorful. Experience the highest grade ayu (sweet fish) and hamo (pike conger eel) in the summer and Taiza crab, a delicacy from Kyoto prefecture, in the winter. Enjoy the art of kaiseki—a traditional meal served in courses—and experience the healing of body and soul.

Please be prepared to bring sufficient cash as Matsukawa does not accept credit cards. The prices are, to put it mildly, rather high; but, forewarned, you will not be disappointed.
