Scrumptious Ramen at an Affordable Price

The restaurant is located in a narrow alley just behind the Shinjuku Marui Main Building.

At first glance, the restaurant appears like a high-end sushi restaurant, albeit with a simple décor. As you enter, select your order from a vending machine. Photo illustrations with an English description make it easier to order. The U-shaped counter overlooks an open kitchen where all employees are dressed in white uniforms. When seated, serve yourself water from a built-in dispenser tap at the counter. Along with its Ikebukuro branch and despite being relatively new to the ramen scene, Ramen Hayashida has placed itself as a front runner in this fiercely competitive ramen district in Tokyo.

The restaurant offers four main ramen bowls: shoyu (soy sauce) ramen, nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) soba, tsukemen (dipping ramen), and maze soba (a soup-less oil mixed noodles). The most popular bowl is the tokusei shoyu ramen (special soy sauce ramen). The amber-colored soup features generous amounts of duck and daisen chicken broth combined with soy sauce tare (specialty sauce). Noodles are supplied by Kanno Seimenjo, a manufacturer of ramen noodles, established in 1953. Medium-thin straight noodles have a firm texture made from a unique blend of several kinds of whole grain flour. Toppings consists of a marinated soft-boiled egg, pork and chicken chashu, negi, and hosaki menma.

The limited edition features a tokusei nodoguro soba (special blackthroat seaperch noodle), an unusual sumptuous seafood broth-based ramen. Nodoguro is less common in the world of ramen; it is primarily served at top-tier sushi restaurants.

Order a chicken chazuke (rice porridge) set to finish off your meal. Try pouring a bit of your remaining ramen soup into the rice bowl to intensify the flavors.

Expect a long line of people waiting in front of the restaurant even before it opens. Please be aware that there are times when the restaurant runs out of soup and it closes its doors for the day.

Quote from Google Map Review
