Takechan is located in the back alley of Mitsukoshi Department Store in Ginza.
The restaurant, established in 1953, was named after the founder, Taketoshi Mizuochi. Mr. Mizuochi, referred to as Takechan, first started as a yatai (food stall) before moving to the current location in 1957. The management has continued to preserve the authentic yatai style with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. When you enter, you’ll feel as if you walked back into the early Showa era.
Takechan uses premium chicken (Nagoya Cochin) and roasts it over a charcoal grill in front of the counter. Customer choice is limited to either a five- or an eight- skewer set menu. Both courses come with a cup of salad, chicken soup, and radish with soy sauce. In between chicken skewers, duck skewers with miso and shiso leaves are served. If you are still hungry, you can order a la carte at the end of the set course.
The level of craftsmanship on display is befitting one of Ginza’s best restaurants, yet Takechan serves meals at regular, affordable prices.
Takechan does not accept reservations so it is recommended you queue up as early as possible.
