Kanda Tendonya is a cozy tendon (a bowl of rice topped with tempura) restaurant located in Jimbocho, Tokyo. The restaurant features an L-shaped white wooden counter with 10 seats. It is a simple eat-and-go restaurant with no background music. The only sounds you are likely to hear are the chef and staff tactfully preparing dishes and the touch of chopsticks on the bowl as customers enjoy their tendon. A spotless interior is equipped with only the bare minimum of utensils.
There are only two main dishes on the menu: Tendon and Ebi-Tendon. While you are in line, the chef will ask customers if you would like Tendon or Ebi-Tendon. After you are seated and, just as the chef is done frying tempura, you will be asked for your desired serving size of rice: nami (regular), chumori (medium), or omori (large).
The ingredients of Tendon are kisu (Japanese whiting), ebi (prawn), ika (squid), kabocha (squash), and nori (seaweed). Relatively thin and light-weight tempura is in exquisite harmony with the soy sauce-based sauce. It is worth noting that, if you finish eating a medium or large serving of rice with not a grain remaining, you will not be charged the extra 50 yen that would otherwise be charged.
Ebi-Tendon consists of three ebi, kabocha, and nori.
Kanda Tendonya is only open during lunch hours with closing at 4 pm.
