Tonkatsu Yamabe has two branches in the Ueno area – Ueno and Okachimachi – both of which are within a few minutes walking distance from one another. The tracks of an elevated JR Yamanote Line separates the two branches. Please pick the branch that is convenient for you. The main branch is called Tonkatsu Ichikatsu. It is located in Ryogoku.
The restaurant is known for its amazingly low prices, especially considering the excellent quality of its food. For example, Jo-Rosu Katsu (high quality loin cutlet) Teishoku (set meal) is only 1,200 yen. This is about half the price of renown tonkatsu restaurants. The quality is comparable to top grade loin cutlets that cost more than 2,000 yen at famous restaurants.
The standard menu item is the Rosu (loin) Katsu Teishoku priced at only 770 yen. The cutlet is 2 centimeters thick and deep-fried to a golden brown. The batter, fried with coarse bread crumbs, has a pleasant, crunchy texture. The cutlet, cut into six equal pieces, is slightly pink in the center. It is very tender with a crispy outer layer that traps the meat juice inside. All the set menus come with shredded cabbage, rice, miso soup, pickles, and mustard. Enjoy your cutlet with a sprinkling of tonkatsu sauce and a touch of mustard.
Mix Teishoku is a popular item that is comprised of Kushi-Katsu (deep-fried skewered meat and vegetables), Ebi-Fry (fried shrimp), and Aji-Fry (fried horse-mackerel). This dish is recommended for those who want to taste both meat and fish at one sitting. Kushi-Katsu is a skewer of onions and pork; crispy fried onions have a sweet flavor that pairs well with the meat. The Ebi-Fry is plump and satisfying. The texture of Aji-Fry is a crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the inside.
ロースカツ定食が770円。コスパいい豚カツ専門店です。1000円以上はする肉質に、そして揚げ方が最高ですね。御徒町店も同様におすすめします。系列の本家筋、両国もまた素晴らしい店だと思います。 Quote from Google Map Review
