Glorious Shine Muscat: Japan’s Perfect Grape Fusion

Shine Muscat, a remarkable grape variety from Hiroshima, Japan, has gained immense popularity. Cultivated with great care by the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Research Organization, it has become a symbol of excellence in horticulture. Surpassing other esteemed domestic grapes, Shine Muscat offers a unique combination of disease resistance and easy cultivation from American grapes, along with the grandeur and demands of European grapes. This fusion results in a balanced and flavorful grape, reflecting the dedicated 33-year journey to develop it.

Thriving in fertile regions such as Nagano, Yamanashi, Okayama, and Yamagata, Shine Muscat is available in greenhouses from July, and in open-field or protected-cultivation variations from mid-August to late September, depending on the location. It has a long shelf life, making it suitable for storage in specialized refrigerators beyond its prime season. Whether enjoyed on special occasions or during the transition into the New Year, Shine Muscat remains resilient.

While Shine Muscat is typically enjoyed in its natural state, including the skin, it also offers culinary possibilities. From delightful desserts to refreshing juices, this versatile grape variety provides a range of delightful taste experiences.
