[Tokyo] Marunouchi Ekimae Square (東京駅丸の内駅前広場): Tokyo’s Timeless Fusion of History and Elegance

Tokyo’s Stunning Addition Known for its Elegance and Vibrancy

Marunouchi Ekimae Square is a stunning and modern public space, situated in Tokyo. With over a century of history, Tokyo Station has long served as the gateway to the city, and the addition of Marunouchi Ekimae Square has only added to its elegance and vibrancy.

Completed in December of 2017, Marunouchi Ekimae Square is a harmonious blend of different spaces, each with its unique purpose and charm. As visitors enter the square, they are greeted by three distinct areas, each offering something different.

The first area is the Marunouchi Central Square, a tranquil oasis for pedestrians. Adorned with Zelkova trees, white stone pavements, and sophisticated lighting design, this area is the perfect spot to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Visitors can also admire the iconic Marunouchi Station Building, which offers a glimpse into Tokyo’s rich history and culture.

The next area is the Transportation Square, a bustling hub for bus and taxi services. By relocating major roads to the periphery, the square has greatly improved its function as a transportation hub, making it easier for travelers to navigate. This area is home to a diverse array of trees, including cherry blossoms and Japanese maple trees, reflecting the changing seasons of Tokyo, making it an ideal spot for visitors to experience the city’s beauty. It also serves as a venue for seasonal events and exhibitions.

Finally, the Marunouchi Brick Square is a charming shopping and dining complex that evokes the atmosphere of European streets with its brick buildings and outdoor terraces. Within this picturesque area, visitors can find an array of shops, restaurants, and even an art gallery.

Marunouchi Ekimae Square represents the harmony between tradition and modernity, nature and architecture, and function and beauty. It is a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike, providing easy access to other Tokyo landmarks such as the Imperial Palace, Ginza, and Nihonbashi.

To reach Marunouchi Ekimae Square, visitors can take the JR Yamanote Line, Keihin-Tohoku Line, Chuo Line, or Tokaido Line to Tokyo Station. Alternatively, they can take the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line or Tozai Line to Otemachi Station or Nijubashimae Station. The square is located on the Marunouchi side of Tokyo Station.
