As the gateway to Tokyo, the historic Tokyo Station has welcomed visitors for over 100 years. The iconic “Marunouchi Station Building” offers a glimpse into the city’s rich history and culture, while the newly-opened “Marunouchi Ekimae Square” is a shining example of the area’s ongoing evolution towards elegance and vibrancy.
Completed in December of 2017, the “Marunouchi Ekimae Square” is a harmonious blend of different spaces, each with its unique purpose and charm. The “Marunouchi Central Square” is a tranquil oasis for pedestrians, featuring tree-lined streets adorned with Zelkova trees, white stone pavements, and sophisticated lighting design. It’s the perfect spot to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
On the north and south sides of the central square, the “Transportation Square” serves as a hub for bus and taxi services. By relocating major roads to the periphery, the square has greatly improved its function as a transportation hub, making it easier for travelers to navigate. The square is also home to a diverse array of trees, including cherry blossoms and Japanese maple trees, that reflect the changing seasons of Tokyo, making it an ideal spot for visitors to experience the beauty of the city.
